The pictures show the People’s Liberation Army retreating from both the North and South banks of the Pangong lake. In line with the agreed disengagement process between the two sides, the Chinese were seen pulling back main battle tanks and also using a bulldozer to flatten some structures.

The pictures also showed a withdrawal of Chinese troops, removal of machinery and dismantling of temporary structures like bunkers, posts and tents. According to the reports, both India and China are expected to complete the disengagement process by the end of the week.

The disengagement process was finalised after both the nations reached an agreement on disengagement in the North and South banks of Pangong lake during the 9th round of Corps Commanders talks held at Moldo border point on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on February 11 informed the Parliament on the disengagement pact. As per the agreement between both the sides, ‘China has to pull back its troops to east of Finger 8 areas in the northern bank while the Indian personnel will be based at their permanent base at Dhan Singh Thapa Post near Finger 3 in the region’.

While addressing the Parliament, that senior military commanders of India and China would meet within 48 hours of completion of the disengagement in the Pangong lake area and hold talks on the de-escalation process.

The next round of talks is expected to focus on de-escalation at Depsang, Hot Springs and Gogra.
